From the age of fifteen he studied at the Prague Conservatory. In 1967 Kylian went to the Royal Ballet School in London with a scholarship of the British Council. Choreographer Jirí Kylián is best known for his work with Nederlands Dans Theatre (NDT) in The Hague. As the company's artistic director, he steered NDT's course for 20 years, creating over 50 works for the company. He also structured the organization uniquely into three tiers as NDT I: the world-famous Dutch ballet company; Jiří Kylián began his dance career at the age of nine at the ballet school of the Prague National Theater, and then the Prague Conservatorium. He had studied acrobatics so that he could work in the circus, but thankfully, that was not to be. In 1967, he was awarded a scholarship to the Royal Ballet School, which changed his life forever.

JIRI KYLIAN After becoming fascinated by the circus at a very young age, Jiří Kylián was interested in acrobatics, leading to him joining the Prague National Theater School at the age of 9.
