Issues of blindness and sight aren't quite as obvious in Antigone, but the same basic tension is there. Tiresias gives the current king, Creon, a warning, and the king is unable to see the wisdom of the seer's words. Creon is blinded by pride—his unwillingness to compromise, to listen to the opinions of his people, or to appear to be defeated
In Antigone, Tiresias not only displays his wisdom, but divines a prophecy with the power to move a king. When Tiresias, first appears he does so of his own accord, displaying a security in his abilities, and a trust in his relationship with Creon. After Teiresias convinces Creon to reluctantly free Antigone, he discovers that his son is now dead as an indirect result of the past decisions Creon has chosen to make. Anything resulting in the story subsequent of Teiresias’ brief stage time is the tragic downfall of our tragic hero, Creon. He finally listens to the Charagous when reminded th at Teiresias has never been wrong. Antigone has no problem working by her self either. She demonstrates this when she slipped by all the guards that were protecting the dead body of Polyneices.
